I am pleased to announce that the Portland Junior Hawks will be fielding a highly competitive Midget AA team for the 2009 - 2010 season. Since the last try out weekend several more players have expressed an interest in playing at the midget level so there will be one more tryout on Wednsday, July 1st at 6:45 - 8:00PM. All players are encouraged to come to this final try out regardless of whether you have already been to any of the previous try outs. The Midget AA coaching staff, consisting of head coach Tim Moran, and assistant coaches Pat Moran and BJ Gaustad will be on hand to run the try out and evaluate, along with the coaches from the selection committee. The format for the try out will be drills with a 45 minute game. Coach BJ and Coach Pat will run the benches while game is under way. After the try out, there will be a meeting for all players who attended the try out and Coach Tim Moran will meet with the parents. The team will be picked, players notified, and announced via the PJH web site.
Registration for the 2009-10 Portland Jr. Hawks season is now open at www.portlandjrhawks.org! Our new online registration process is quick, easy, and guides you through the process of registering for USA Hockey and PJH. Many thanks to PJH Treasurer Donna Goddard for getting this set up.
Some important details:
Our registration cost has up by approximately 10%. We wanted to hold the line from last year, but after crunching the budget numbers the fact of the matter is our ice costs have gone up by more than 10%, and other costs associated with running the program have increased by even more. Our overhead remains incredibly low due to the fact we are a volunteer driven organization - thank you to all the volunteers who make PJH happen!
Our registration cost is $850 if you pay in full prior to August 1st, or $925 if you pay on August 1st or later. What is NEW and in response to member requests are different PAYMENT PLAN options spelled out in our registration information. We hope this helps ease the burden of paying for hockey for many of our valued members.
PJH has an updated scholarship policy and procedure for families that may need some help paying for the hockey season. There is a link to scholarship information on the PJH registration page.
Detailed information regarding our 2009-10 House League is being finalized by Lester Sparks will be posted shortly. House League evaluations will occur on the second weekend of September.
Tryout information for our Rep teams has been posted on the PJH web site. Detailed information for the August Rep tryouts (Peewees and younger) will be up soon.
It should be another great season!

Midget AA/AAA Letter And Budget Info From Coach Tim Moran
If you are a Jr. Hawk Midget aged player (15-18 years old) or parent of one, please read this this entire e-mail as it contains important information.
The PJH Board of Directors is aware of the concerns being expressed about the configuration of our Midget program for the 2009-10 season, specifically the decision to NOT have separate U16 and U18 teams but instead field a U18 team and a short-season Midget B developmental team. This decision was based on our prediction of the number of Midget players that will be trying out for the PJH Midget Rep program, coupled with the fact we did not have enough interest from qualified coaches to bring a second Midget "A" team on line - these factors remain unchanged.
I want to assure everyone that we are committed to the best possible hockey experience for as many kids as possible who want to wear the Jr. Hawk logo. IF there is a significantly higher number of Rep level Midget players than predicted that attend the tryout for Coach Moran's U18AA/AAA team, then PJH is prepared to REACT and STRONGLY CONSIDER forming another A-level Midget Rep team. We will NEED to see significant player and parent interest - demonstrated by coming to the U18 tryouts - to make this happen. We still would need to find a qualified coach, which I don't believe is an insurmountable task and hopefully will not make any players shy away from attending tryouts.
As far as the U18AA/AAA goes, the outline below from Head Coach Tim Moran reviews team details. This will be a strong team with a highly competitive season ahead - tryout info and times are posted on the PJH home page. Best of luck to everyone trying out, and as we all know, "luck" favors the
prepared.
