Board of Director Open Positions
Dear Portland Junior Hawks Members,There are three Board of Director positions whose term will expire in May of 2012, currently held by David Ross (Secretary), Greg Cheetham (Coaching Director) and Florence Hahn (Fundraising). Only David Ross has indicated his intention to run again. The current Coaching Director and Fundraising positions are being vacated. The Board is now accepting nominations for candidates who are interested in running for these positions. The nominating committee will meet on January 8th. The election of new board members will be held in February 2012, and those who are elected will begin their three-year terms in May 2012.

The Board of Directors consists of nine members: the Officers which include the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary; and five Directors, all of whom have assigned duties (house division director, tier division director, coaching director, equipment, tournaments, fundraising, etc.). Members are elected to the Board, and the Board subsequently determines assigned duties, however, persons with the desire and the skills necessary to fulfill the duties of the positions being vacated are strongly urged to apply.
The Board is looking for representatives from rep hockey, house hockey, younger age groups and older age groups to fill these positions. Please consider volunteering your time to help grow the game of hockey in our community.

The letter of interest should include a short description of your background (personal or hockey related) and/or why you’re interested in the position. In accordance with Article IV Section 8 of the corporation's by-laws, a member may also be nominated by delivering a petition before January 4th signed by fifteen other members entitled to vote, naming the candidate, containing each nominee's written authorization for candidacy, and containing a brief biographical statement of the nominee. Your name and information will be placed on the association's website for general knowledge.

- USA HOCKEY REGISTRATION/INSURANCE: You must be registered with USA Hockey for the 2011/2012 season and will need your registration number before you can continue the registration process. If you have already registered with USA Hockey for the upcoming season, you may get another copy of your confirmation number by going to usahockey.com, click on "Register Online" under the Players or Membership Tab, then click on "Request an additional confirmation page" (on the upper left side of the page).
- TRAVEL TEAM TRYOUTS: Tryout fees are $50 and payable online and cover two days of tryouts. Tryouts for all A LEVEL travel teams will be Saturday, August 20 and Sunday, August 21. Tryouts for Midget B will be Tuesday, August 23 and Thursday, August 25. Tryout fees are non-refundable. Please bring your confirmation of payment receipt with you to tryouts. REP PLAYERS: YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TRYOUT WITHOUT BEING REGISTERED AND PAID IN FULL.
- PAYMENT PLAN OPTIONS: If you register by June 30th, you can take advantage of breaking-up your WINTER LEAGUE registration fee into four equal payments. If you wait, you reduce the number of months available to spread out your fee. There is a service fee of $75 to take advantage of the payment plan. Payments are automatically deducted ON THE FIRST of each month. The system automatically charges your account on the first of each month and this date can not be changed. So, if the first of the month is not good for you, then please do not use the payment plan.

Equipment is available for rent ($50 for both sessions) to all mites and mini-mites (includes: helmet, shin pads, elbow pads, chest pad, and pants).
- HOUSE/REC PLAYERS: House Evaluations will take place on Sunday October 2 and Sunday October 9, 2011. Please attend BOTH sessions. House players must print and bring your registration confirmation email to evaluations. Times will be posted on our website.
- • HOUSE TOURNAMENTS: PJH will host two house tournaments this year: You will have the option of paying your house tournament fee when you register. Mini mites, mites, and squirt house players will be participating in the Harvest Cup on November 25-27. Pee Wee and Bantam house players will be participating in the Frozen Rose Tournament in March 2012.
- REFUNDS: There is a $50 non-refundable fee once you have completed registration. Typically, NO REGISTRATION REFUNDS will be given unless PJH does not have an age appropriate team for your player. Tryout fees are non-refundable.
If you are selected for a rep/travel team and chose not to play for the team after being selected, you will NOT receive a refund of your registration fee however; you may apply the registration to house league play.
- BIRTH CERTIFICATES: : If you were a PJH member last season (2010/2011), your birth certificate is on file. However; if you are a NON-USA Citizen, you will need to bring current Proof of Legal residency to the evaluation skates. Any player who DID NOT PLAY for PJH last year must bring a COPY of a certified birth certificate and proof of legal residency to the evaluation skate. Please read the waiver when you register online; it will explain that we will keep your birth certificate on file this year for use in future years. If you do not wish PJH to keep your birth certificate on file, please notify our registrar in writing. Hospital certificates are NOT acceptable; please make sure it is a COPY of a certified birth certificate.
- SCHOLARSHIP/FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION: For information on applying for financial aid for the 2011/2012 season, please click here.
- • Balance of registration fees for house players must be paid in full no later than September 1st, 2011. Rep/Travel team players must be paid in full prior to tryouts on August 20, 2011. PLAYERS WILL NOT BE ROSTERED OR ALLOWED ON THE ICE WITHOUT BEING REGISTERED AND PAID IN FULL.

PJH Squirt Selects win - 2010 Break the Ice Tournament in Boise, ID
PJH PeeWees and Bantams take second!

The Portland Jr Hawks select teams all returned from Boise, ID after successful weekends. Lot's of great hockey action was played and culminated in all (3) teams making the finals.
PJH Squirt selects took the championship with an 8-3 win over the Boise Jr Steelheads!
PJH PeeWee selects lost in the final to the host Jr Steelheads in an action packed 3-2 game.
PJH Bantam selects also came up just short to the Jr Steelheads 4-3.
Good showing by our kids in Boise! See you all at the rink..

PJH MITE A TEAM WINS 2010 SQUIRT HARVEST CUP CHAMPIONSHIP!
PJH Black Ice takes 4th place!

The Portland Jr. Hawks Mite A Development Team went undefeated to secure 1st place in the 2010 Squirt C Harvest Cup Championship.
There were 10 squirt teams competing this year from Eugene, Seattle, Kitsap County, Kent Valley, and our own organization. Both the Mite A team and the Kent Valley Tornadoes went undefeated in their divisions. It was a great final game that was tied until the end of the third period when the Mite A’s put two more on the scoreboard to secure the win. The PJH Black Ice faced off against the Eugene Jr. Generals and took 4th place! Congratulations to the Portland Jr. Hawks for taking two of the top four spots! A special congratulation to the Mite A team for being the first PJH team to win a Harvest Cup Championship! GO HAWKS!
Fall Development Program is Under Way!

September 19, 2010 was a remarkable day for youth hockey in Portland. The Portland Jr. Hawks Fall Development Program program took to the beautiful new ice at the Winterhawks Skating Center under the watchful eyes of renowned skills Coach Ben Stadey and our terrific cadre of PJH coaches....you could feel the energy in the rink from 7:00am when the first mini-mite stepped on until 8:15pm when the last Midget stepped off. All our Rep teams begin practice this week and are looking forward to their first games. HOCKEY IS BACK!
