2006-2007 Girls Hockey Program

Mission: The mission of the girls? hockey program is to provide a quality hockey experience for players and parents, which matches their level and desire for competition. Full-season PJH girls' teams are considered Rep teams and will conduct themselves accordingly.

Goals: We plan to provide the female hockey player with an "All Girl Competitive" team on which to play. We will teach basic to advanced hockey skills and introduce the mental aspect of the game. We will also teach simple systems and team play. Our intent is to schedule teams to play that are as close to the same level as possible, to allow players to apply these systems. Conditioning will be on and off-ice for player development.

Teams: PJH will have at least one full-season U19A team. Players will be invited onto the team, regardless of age, as long as the basic skills are demonstrated. If there are new skaters that do not have the basic skills, we will work with the house program to find an appropriate level for them to play. (We had one such experience last year that worked well for all parties.) If enough girls try out, a second girls' team may be formed, either a U19B team or a younger team such as a U16 or U14 team. A younger team may play a intermittent schedule if several girls are interested in playing co-ed hockey in addition to being part of an all girls team. A U12 or U10 girls? team may be put together during the season, but is expected that girls in this age groups will be playing co-ed hockey.

Placement Skate: Girls age 11-18 are invited to a placement skate on Saturday September 16th at 9:30am-10:45am, Valley Ice Arena. This session will be important to make sure that all interested U19 girls have the level of skills and attitude to play at the Rep level, and that appropriate placement is identified for all others. Note: There will be a placement skate fee of $30

Games: For the U19A Team, a schedule of 30-35 games will be set, including one tournament - one PJH tournament is being planned for the President's Day weekend in Portland (ice permitting). The Team hopes to play Women's teams, Bantam B teams, Bantam House teams, and Southern Oregon HS (co-ed non-check format). Game schedules for other PJH girls' teams will be set based on whether they are full-season or intermittent teams.

Practices: Full-season girls' teams will practice 2 nights per week, one splitting a sheet of ice and one with a full sheet of ice. A benchmark will be set at the beginning and end of the season to note player improvement.

Jerseys & Socks: PJH Rep teams will be provided with home & away jerseys and socks. The jerseys are black and white and will be turned in at the end of the season.

Warm-Ups: Rep teams will wear matching warm-ups at all levels. Being that girls have different builds than the boys, the board is working to approve a female cut warm-up. It will be black and have the PJH logo much like the boys, just a bit different fit. Warm-ups will cost approximately $75.

Costs:

  • Jr. Hawks registration fees

  • Warm-up costs $75

  • Monthly dues estimated at $200 for full-season teams

  • Costs will vary for partial-season teams

  • All travel expenses

Coaching: Coaching the U19A team this year will be Jody Carpenter as head coach, with Eric Miller and Kent Lane as assistants. Jody played his youth hockey in North Dakota and then played Juniors in Tri-Cities and Spokane. Other coaches will be identified if there are enough girls to form additional teams.
