Bantam Select Team Information
POSTED - November 20th, 2009
I would like to thank all the Bantam players (and their parents) that attended the try-out on Tuesday evening. We had a very talented group of players in attendance. Unfortunately some can not be selected for this year's Bantam Select team. I have seen the players' hockey talents progress already this season and I want to encourage those who were not selected to continue developing their skills and talents with the goal of trying out again next season.

Squirt House Select Team Tryouts - Nov. 15th, 2009
POSTED - November 10th, 2009
Hello PJH Squirt House families!
Squirt House Select Team tryouts will be held on Sunday, November 15th, from 11:30-1:00pm at Valley Ice Arena. All PJH Squirt House players are eligible to try out for the team - cost will be $25 per player for the tryout.
Players should be completely dressed and ready to go by 11:15am and ready for a coaches briefing. This is a TRYOUT, so being on time, paying attention, and working hard are all important factors.
IMPORTANT DETAILS:
Head Coach: Tom O'Connor
Assistant Coaches: To be announced
Roster will consists of 13-15 skaters and 1-2 goalies.
Squirt Select will practice 2-4 times per month depending on game activity. This may be early on weekends or with Squirt A on Wednesday nights when possible. Squirt Select will NOT conflict with House League obligations.
Squirt Select is an additional time and financial commitment above and beyond House League. Fees will be determined once the schedule is finalized, but $350-$450 range for the program is a fair estimate. Remember, any Squirt Select ice is in addition to House league ice.
Tentative tournament plans are going to the Boise Squirt B tournament, January 1-3, and a tournament in British Columbia on March 5-7 (possibly Chilliwack). The Squirt Select season will be DONE after the early March tournament so kids can move on to Spring sports.
Other games will be scheduled with appropriate competition.....PJH Squirt A, Seattle Junior Squirt Development Team, Eugene (they are strong this year), NW Selects girls team. This schedule is being developed, but once again, will NOT conflict with Squirt House team obligations.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Coach Tom O'Connor via e-mail, tomo@canby.com, or via phone at 503-572-7495. Hope to see a great turnout on the 15th!

This is a tremendous opportunity for our Portland Junior Hawk House Program to really put everything together, under one team, hit the ice and show the other House League Select Teams what we have in Portland. In the famous words of John "Bluto" Blutarsky (Animal House)..."What Happened to the Hawks I used to know? Where's the Spirit? Where's The Gut's? This could be the Greatest Nights of our Lives. This Is Going To Be Great!!!"
We hope to see you there!

Welcome to the Portland Junior Hawks House League season 2009/2010! First, I would like to send a big THANK YOU to all of those who helped out at the House Evaluations and Saturday Market gear swap. Both were a tremendous success! Second, I will be sending out periodic updates throughout the season to keep you all informed of the latest happenings in the House League. Stay tuned to your email and visit our website often! www.portlandjrhawks.org. Finally, I have attached the ice schedule for September 26 through October 9th. I will continue to update the schedule as ice time and travel schedules are confirmed.
House League Rosters will be posted to the website soon! Stay tuned for the next update and we are all looking forward to another great season!
Starting with the 2008-2009 PJH House league season, PJH will provide jerseys to house league players but collect them at season's end. This policy will continue until further notice.
FAQ's:
Why is PJH changing the jersey policy?
Answer: To defray jersey costs for this season and future seasons. To provide a quality PJH Brand that will be consistent from this point forward. To cut down on time spent each season ordering and managing the jersey process.
If my child does not get a jersey at the end of the season, what do they get?
Answer: Kids will get a nice PJH gift item at the end of each season. Actual gift is currently being determined and will change each year. Some of the ideas we are currently bouncing around: PJH T-shirts, Hoodies, Backpacks, Practice jersey, Hats - something promoting the PJH brand that our children will wear or use more often.
Does my child have to return their socks?
Answer: No, socks will be provided but kept by your child.
Will my child's jersey fit?
Answer: PJH has gone to great lengths ordering jerseys that will fit and not shrink. They are a heavy duty, sublimated jersey provided by Easton and with proper care will last several seasons. Actual sizing is fluid from Mite through Bantams. Four standard colors/designs have been chosen with one in each division. Jerseys can be exchanged within divisions if needed to ensure proper fit. Special goalie sizing and numbers have also been factored in.
How do we care for our NEW jerseys?
Answer: The PJH board is asking that the Coach, Team Manager and/or Parent volunteer take back jerseys after each game for cleaning and storage. Jersey bags will be provided for transport. This will ensure proper care and avoid damage while in kids' bags (ie. skate cuts and tears).
Can we have name plates on the NEW jerseys?
Answer: In an effort to maintain the overall integrity of the jerseys, PJH has a NO name plate policy.
PJH continues to strive to provide our members a quality product. Hockey in Portland is exciting but always changing. If you would like to volunteer your time and help grow hockey in Portland please contact any current board member.
Registration for the 2009-10 Portland Jr. Hawks season is now open at www.portlandjrhawks.org! Our new online registration process is quick, easy, and guides you through the process of registering for USA Hockey and PJH. Many thanks to PJH Treasurer Donna Goddard for getting this set up.
Some important details:
Our registration cost has up by approximately 10%. We wanted to hold the line from last year, but after crunching the budget numbers the fact of the matter is our ice costs have gone up by more than 10%, and other costs associated with running the program have increased by even more. Our overhead remains incredibly low due to the fact we are a volunteer driven organization - thank you to all the volunteers who make PJH happen!
Our registration cost is $850 if you pay in full prior to August 1st, or $925 if you pay on August 1st or later. What is NEW and in response to member requests are different PAYMENT PLAN options spelled out in our registration information. We hope this helps ease the burden of paying for hockey for many of our valued members.
PJH has an updated scholarship policy and procedure for families that may need some help paying for the hockey season. There is a link to scholarship information on the PJH registration page.
Detailed information regarding our 2009-10 House League is being finalized by Lester Sparks will be posted shortly. House League evaluations will occur on the second weekend of September.
Tryout information for our Rep teams has been posted on the PJH web site. Detailed information for the August Rep tryouts (Peewees and younger) will be up soon.
It should be another great season!
Best Regards,
Tom O'Connor
